Costa has released two new frame designs: the Slack Tide and Bayside, combining “the performance features Costa is known for with a relaxed, laidback, modern style.”

Built for Life On and Off the Water, Costa’s® New Slack Tide and Bayside Frames Combine Performance with Style
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – June 21, 2018 – Named for tidal movements and the beauty of the shore,Costa’s® new Slack Tide and Bayside frames combine the performance features Costa is known for with a relaxed, laidback, modern style.
Stemming from the company’s deep history on the water, all Costa sunglasses, including Slack Tide and Bayside, bear reference to the water, its movement or locations. Slack Tide is named for the relatively still water experienced between the rise and fall of the tides. This new style offers a sporty, yet stylish look for adventures on and off the water. The ventilation ports and Hydrolite® nose and temple pads help manage perspiration and heat while preventing slippage, and the frames are keeper-ready—perfect for multiple tide changes.
Bayside earns its name from the land on the shore of the bay—the best spot for wetting a line, taking in the view, and an early morning stroll. The new style offers a medium fit with a rounded eye shape, and was made to perform with sweat management ventilation ports, Hydrolite nose and temple pads and pin hinges.
The new styles are constructed with Costa’s environmentally friendly bio-resin, are durable and lightweight, and hold their shape under the harshest conditions. Each of the new frames incorporates Costa’s innovative sweat management system with ventilation ducting that allows airflow through the end piece of the frame—for cooling and to reduce lens fogging. And, like all other Costa frames, the new styles feature Costa’s 580® color-enhancing lens technology (available in both polycarbonate and scratch-resistant Lightwave® glass), which selectively filters out harsh yellow light for superior contrast and definition and absorbs high-energy blue light to cut haze and enhance sharpness. The patented 580 lens technology provides 100 percent UV protection and polarization delivering the clearest lenses on the planet.
Slack Tide is available in shiny black and matte tortoise with 580 glass or polycarbonate lenses in all seven lens colors. The frames also come in matte black and shiny tortoise, shiny tiger shark (part of the OCEARCH Collection) and Bahama blue fade with 580 glass or polycarbonate lenses in multiple lens colors. All frame options can also be customized with prescription lenses.
Bayside is available in shiny tortoise and shiny black with 580 glass or polycarbonate lenses in six lens colors (not including Sunrise Silver Mirror). The frames also come in Bahama blue fade with 580 glass blue mirror lenses or 580 polycarbonate gray lenses, and matte coral with 580 glass or polycarbonate copper lenses. All Bayside frame options are also available with prescription lenses.
“Slack Tide and Bayside feature new frame ventilation ducts to alleviate lens fogging for superior performance both on and off the water,” said John Sanchez, vice president of product design for Costa. “Combining functionality and our patented lens technology with on-trend design, these new styles are perfect for anglers and adventurers.”
The new styles range in price from $179 to $259, based on lens selection. For more information on the new frames and Costa’s full line of performance sunglasses, visit www.costadelmar.com.

RepYourWater Releases First Annual Sustainability Report
ERIE, CO – In an effort to communicate with their customers about RepYourWater’s sustainability efforts, RepYourWater has released their First Annual Sustainability Report.
“Sustainability certainly matters to us as individuals, but minimizing our environmental impact is also important to us as a business and increasingly important to our customers,” says RepYourWater Co-founder, Corinne Doctor. “We are so grateful that we are in a position to donate 3% of our sales to our nonprofit conservation partners, but we made a decision to do more than make financial contributions and actually walk the walk, which is why we decided to start looking at our own operations and products to see how we could mitigate the risks associated with climate change on our fisheries,” added RepYourWater Co-founder, Garrison Doctor.
RepYourWater worked with sustainability and marketing consulting firm, Emerger Strategies, to start measuring the environmental footprint of their operations, develop strategies to minimize their environmental impact and produce the RepYourWater Annual Sustainability Report. “Climate change is the absolute greatest threat to fisheries around the world, and RepYourWater is the real deal when it comes to authenticity and actually caring enough about the negative impact climate change is having by cutting their GHG emissions and diverting waste from the landfill,” says Rick Crawford, President of Emerger Strategies.
“Addressing climate change transparently and unabashedly has been a great business decision for us,” Garrison adds. “We also announced our 2020 Sustainability Goals in the Report, and we hope you follow along on our sustainability journey, and as we continue to grow as a company. We are excited for what the future holds,” echoes Corinne!

Tenkara USA has announced the release of the Hane Rod, designed to pack down to under 15 inches and perfect for backpacking, bikepacking, and travel.

Tenkara USA Introduces New Hane Rod
More Compact, Featherweight, Perfect for Backpacking
Boulder, CO (June 19, 2018) – Tenkara USA, the original American tenkara rod company, is proud to introduce the new Hane Rod, built to pack down even smaller for hiking, bikepacking, or any kind of travel.
Measuring just under 15 inches when collapsed, the Hane (pronounced: “huh – nay”) is a super compact all-around tenkara fly fishing rod that will quickly become your favorite adventure rod. The compact size and light weight allows the Hane to fit nicely inside a small day pack or bike pannier, and is an ideal tenkara rod for backpacking, bikefishing and other adventures.
Designed to be a rod that can tag along in a variety of conditions without compromising durability, the Hane works well in mountain streams as well as urban fishing outings like ponds. Whether you’re targeting trout or bass, the Hane will be a go-to rod for off-road adventure.
The white color is unique among the Tenkara USA lineup, blending in with open skies above. A black rod does a good job blending in with canopy, but white is a perfect camouflage for fishing ponds and open meadow streams. The tip of the rod is black, however, so we slow humans can keep our eyes on it.
Hane Specs:
Weight: 3.5 oz (100 g);
Closed length: 15″ (38cm)
Open lengths: 10’10” (330cm)*
Handle length:8″ (20.5cm)
Segments: 12

Winston / Bauer Announce James Jindal as Eastern Sales Rep
The R.L. Winston Rod Company and Bauer Fly Reels are pleased to announce that James Jindal has joined the teams as Eastern Sales Representative.
James Jindal’s first job in specialty retail was working for the local bait and tackle in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, at the age of 13. Being situated on the northern most barrier island of the Jersey Coast, James spent the bulk of his time targeting inshore species such as striped bass, blue fish, weakfish, fluke, albacore, and anything else that swam.
James began working in a specialty fly shop in 2009 which has grown into one of the premier shops on the coast. After 5 years growing with the store and also managing a diverse customer base, James is now well versed in Spey, saltwater and freshwater fly fishing, as well as destination travel. His fishing resume includes the Northeast, Pacific Northwest, Belize, Costa Rica, and Argentina and he is both ready and willing to share those experiences with his customers in hopes of passing along his knowledge to others. James has spent the last 3 years working as a Rep in the Mid-Atlantic for some major brands in the fly fishing industry.
Many of you know James already and for those of you who do not, he very much looks forward to working with you and being the absolute best resource he can possibly be. James can be found swinging flatwings to striped bass in Rhode Island or dead drifting dry flies over wild brown trout on the Upper Delaware System.
“James comes to us with great experience and expertise working in this important specialty market. He is a keen angler and knows both the fisheries and the shops. He can respond to changing conditions on the water and in the marketplace with a careful eye on the growth of his dealer base and Winston/Bauer. We all welcome him to the team.”
– Jim Murphy, Winston/Bauer Sales Manager
“I am very proud and honored to be a part of two of the most historic brands in the industry. Learning about and passing on the traditions is a key component of fly fishing as a whole. I look forward to doing that with Winston and Bauer.”

As summer temperatures increase, Fishpond is raising awareness of protecting fish when the water heats up. In Montana, “Hoot Owl” restrictions go into effect when water temps hit 73°F for three consecutive days, and closes down fishing between 2PM and midnight. This allows fish to rest and not face additional stresses during the hottest part of the day. Fishpond urges anglers to self-impose these restrictions for the health of their local trout populations, and have released a limited edition t-shirt to raise awareness about Hoot Owl Closures. 100% of proceeds will be donated to American Rivers.

American Rivers has been announced as the recipient of a $3,000 Fisheries Fund grant from the American Fly Fishing Trade Association. The funds will help in their work “removing invasive Russian olive trees along the Upper Yellowstone River and restoring native vegetation.”
Read more in the press release below.
American Rivers Receives Fisheries Fund Grant
BOZEMAN, MT. – AFFTA is pleased to announce that American Rivers has been awarded a Fisheries Fund grant in the amount of $3,000 for their work in removing invasive Russian olive trees along the Upper Yellowstone River and restoring native vegetation.
“Protecting, restoring, and conserving the health of our nation’s fisheries and beautiful places we find them is one of AFFTA’s main objectives. Without healthy rivers, lakes and oceans, abundant fish, and access, our industry—and our sport—will suffer. The work that American Rivers is engaged in is important, and we’re excited to support the Upper Yellowstone project.”
According to Scott Bosse, Northern Rockies Director of the organization, this project is focused on eradicating the only major infestation of non-native Russian olive trees along the Park County reach of the Upper Yellowstone River—a stand of trees that is wreaking environmental havoc on the river.
“By displacing native riparian vegetation such as willows and cottonwoods,” he reports, “they compromise riverbank stability, which puts more fine sediments to the river, smothering insect life and spawning gravels. They reduce shading, cover, and structure that wild trout depend on. Plus, the trees wall off the river, making access to prime water more difficult for float and wade anglers.
“With support from the AFFTA Fisheries Fund, we are working with local partners to eradicate the largest and furthest upstream invasion of Russian olives trees there.”
Following the removal of the trees, grant funding will be used to replant the area with native riparian vegetation such as willows and cottonwoods and then monitor and inventory the site for a period of five years to ensure the project is successful.
“This is a big deal for wild trout,” he adds. “A healthy riparian ecosystem is the foundation of the river’s wild trout fishery.”
Learn more about American Rivers at americanrivers.org
The AFFTA Fisheries Fund was established in late 2014 with the main objective of funding organizations and projects focused on fisheries conservation and education. The Fisheries Fund is initially seeded with revenue from IFTD, and is now open to donations from AFFTA members and the general public. To learn more, apply for a grant, or make a contribution, visit affta.org/fisheries-fund
AFFTA advocates for and promotes the sustained growth of the fly fishing industry. By igniting consumer demand for products and services, providing businesses the tools to be successful, and advocating for access, protection and restoration of fishing waters, we will continue to enhance the passion and profitability of the sport of fly fishing.
